Colon hydrotherapy

We do not live from what we eat, but from what we digest.
 — (Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland, 1762 – 1836)

A healthy gut is the foundation for well-being, vitality and a strong immune system. But through stress, unhealthy nutrition, lack of exercise or medication, gut function can become unbalanced. Colon Hydrotherapy offers an effective way to cleanse the large intestine gently and thoroughly.

With this method, the intestine is rinsed with temperate, filtered water — in a closed, hygienic system. Deposits, fermentation substances and old stool residues can be dissolved and eliminated.

Advantages of Colon Hydrotherapy:

  • Relief for the digestive system
  • Activation of the natural intestinal movement (peristalsis)
  • Support of the body's own detoxification
  • Improvement of skin appearance and general well-being
  • Support for bloating, fullness, constipation or irritable bowel
  • Meaningfully accompanying fasting cures, detoxification and build-up programmes

Colon Hydrotherapy is adapted entirely individually for you and carried out in a quiet, protected atmosphere — for a light, clean body feeling and new energy from within.

How does colon hydrotherapy work?

Colon hydrotherapy is a modern, device-controlled form of bowel irrigation. Using a closed system, temperature-controlled water is gently introduced into the large intestine in several passes and drained again in a controlled manner. Unlike a classic enema, the system remains completely closed, so that neither odours nor awkward situations arise. During the treatment I can address individual sections of the bowel specifically by means of a gentle abdominal massage.

The aim is to cleanse the bowel and stimulate its natural motility. An honest classification matters to me here: colon hydrotherapy is a supportive naturopathic measure, not a treatment for specific illnesses. Many people experience it as pleasant relief, particularly alongside a change of diet or a detoxification programme.

How a session in my practice proceeds

Before the first treatment there is a conversation about your digestion, your medical history and possible contraindications. The treatment itself usually takes around 45 minutes. You lie comfortably on a couch, the water flows in and out at calm intervals, accompanied by a gentle abdominal massage. Most patients find the session relaxing and go straight back to their normal daily routine afterwards.

When is colon hydrotherapy requested?

It is used above all as an accompanying measure and to support well-being, for example with:

  • sluggish digestion and a feeling of fullness
  • as part of bowel cleansing or rebuilding the gut flora after antibiotics
  • as a building block of a detoxification and elimination programme
  • before a change of diet or a fasting cure

Whether the therapy makes sense in your situation is something we clarify together in the first consultation. With specific bowel complaints, a medical assessment comes first; that matters to me.

How many sessions and at what intervals?

Colon hydrotherapy is often carried out as a course of several sessions, for example one to two weeks apart. How many treatments make sense for you depends on your concern and is discussed individually. A single session is just as possible as an accompanying course.

Preparation and what to do after the treatment

Elaborate preparation is usually not necessary. On the day of treatment, light food and plenty of fluids are advisable. The same applies after the session: drink plenty, eat lightly and give your bowel some rest. I provide you with specific guidance individually.

Safety, risks and an honest assessment of the evidence

The scientific evidence on the effectiveness of colon hydrotherapy is limited and is debated controversially. I therefore promise neither a cure nor the removal of supposed waste deposits, but describe the therapy as what it is: a supportive measure within a naturopathic concept that many experience as beneficial.

When carried out properly in a closed system, the treatment is well tolerated. It is not performed in cases of acute or chronic inflammatory bowel disease, recent bowel surgery, severe heart or kidney disease, during pregnancy, or with diverticulitis or known bowel tumours, among others. We carefully clarify these and other contraindications before the first session.

What does colon hydrotherapy cost in Wiesbaden?

Colon hydrotherapy is a self-pay service. Statutory health insurers generally do not cover the cost; private insurers with a corresponding tariff may cover part of it, depending on the policy. You receive a transparent treatment cost plan from me in advance, so that you know the cost before treatment begins.
