Burn out Depression, Erschöpfung

… I can't go on … a patient says to me, after finally pulling himself together and his wife accompanying him to my practice.

He is a senior employee, top earner, family father and proud owner of a wonderful house. Family holidays to the most beautiful destinations have shaped the past years. There should therefore be no reason at all for his condition — and yet… I look into a dull face. His empty gaze is fixed on the floor. He is „tired and absolutely exhausted“, he says, and can only sleep and sleep all day. His wife tells me about his professional projects, his promotion and many appointments and meetings abroad.

„It came on somehow gradually“, she says, …“first this tiredness, lack of concentration and forgetfulness. Sometimes also an irritability and defensiveness which she did not recognise in him at all… He used to be absolutely resilient, managed his full workload and carried it with humour. The symptoms intensified with his „new project“ and one evening he sat on the sofa, started crying and could not stop…“ He has now been on sick leave for two weeks. The doctor prescribed him a psychotropic medication and lots of rest…

It is infinitely difficult to imagine what these people go through in such a situation.

The body experiences pain or total exhaustion, the strength to put one foot in front of the other is missing, the ringing of the phone causes fear and panic, the thought of emails or correspondence to be dealt with paralyses the entire organism, all energy and drive are gone… the smallest activities become torture or an insurmountable obstacle. The psyche feels grey and heavy, either very sad, or simply empty. It is the feeling of being stuck in a deep well, with no possibility of ever leaving it again.

These symptoms usually have several causes, and in some cases must be treated with medication, and any change of medication should ONLY be carried out in consultation with the treating physician. Of course, conversations, talk therapy and psychotherapy are also a very important building block. It is not uncommon for professional and private decisions to be re-examined.

Since there are often several causes, it is possible to address the issue from several angles.

In addition to traumas and severe experiences, causes may also include symptoms of intoxication or a lack of vital substances.

Lack of vital substances despite „normal“ nutrition… how can that be?

Our body generates its energy and all its basic substances from our food. It is chewed, digested and broken down into the smallest building blocks. Ultimately these are fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. From these, the organism builds cells, enzymes, hormones and so on. Under strong and lasting stress, certain substances are needed and consumed in elevated amounts. If we are, for example, permanently under stress, the body is permanently exposed to a high cortisol level. This hormone is produced in the adrenal glands and provides the body with strength in emergencies. Lasting stress leads, among other things, to exhausted adrenal glands. For their hormone production, these glands require various vital substances. If our reserves are depleted, it is not possible for our body to synthesise hormones and so on in sufficient quantities. Furthermore, functioning mitochondria are required for production. These are „cellular power plants“ — comparable to a „power generator“ in the cell. They are present in varying numbers in our cells and organs and enable their work. They too require various vital substances / nutrients to allow the body to function smoothly. If there is a deficiency, the cell or the respective organ cannot deliver the performance needed. The consequences may show themselves, for example, in the form of exhaustion, pain, concentration problems, depression, sleep disorders and so on. Finding and remedying the respective deficiency is helpful.

Amino acids, enzymes, hormones, minerals, trace elements, vitamins and so on can be measured in my practice. I aim to address an existing deficiency through various foods or, if required, through nutritional supplements or injections / infusions.

Detoxification / releasing blockages

Alongside a deficiency in vital substances, toxins are also able to inhibit or block (enzymatic) processes. Through these „troublemakers“, some substances cannot be processed correctly, or messenger substances may be blocked. Messengers serve the body as an internal channel of communication (comparable to an in-house telephone). If the in-house telephone lines are disturbed or interrupted, information within the house is transmitted incorrectly or not at all. The result is clear to all of us. Tasks are either carried out incorrectly or not at all.

The aim should once again be to localise the toxins and, where possible, to eliminate them, so that the body is enabled once again to work and communicate normally. There are many possibilities for detoxification — not all are sensible for every patient. I am happy to advise and support you here with practical guidance.
