Conventional Medicine & Homeopathy — Contradiction or Complement?

The debate about whether conventional medicine and homeopathy are compatible has been conducted controversially for years. While conventional medicine relies on scientifically proven diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, homeopathy follows a holistic, experience-based approach that draws on the body's own powers of self-healing. Yet rather than playing the two systems off against each other, the understanding is increasingly coming to the fore that they can complement each other meaningfully. Conventional medicine is indispensable when it comes to acute emergencies, surgical procedures, infectious diseases or life-threatening conditions. Modern diagnostics, medicines and intensive care procedures save lives every day. Nevertheless, conventional measures sometimes reach their limits with functional or chronic complaints, with psychosomatic conditions or in long-term care. This is where homeopathy can make a complementary contribution. It strengthens the body's own regulatory system, sees the person as a whole and takes psychological and social factors into account. Many patients report that homeopathic support makes them feel better seen and more individually cared for, particularly with chronic complaints where conventional approaches alone do not provide a complete solution. Responsible collaboration is essential: homeopathy must not serve as a substitute for necessary medical treatment, but should be understood as a complementary building block. An integrative medicine that draws on the best of both worlds can make healthcare more holistic, closer to the patient and more sustainable. The decision in favour of a particular form of therapy should always be made individually, with a view to the specific situation, the needs and the openness of the patient. Conventional medicine and homeopathy are not necessarily in conflict; used properly, they can complement each other effectively.
